SANTA CLARA, CA, September 30, 2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) today announced the winners of its 14th annual Supplier Awards Program, including its top Supplier of the Year, Benchmark Electronics Inc., of suburban Houston, TX, which regained an honor it first achieved from Sun in 2002.

The awards including Best-in-Class and Meritorious Performance, and the Supplier of the Year honor -- recognize companies that make outstanding contributions to Sun Microsystems' ability to deliver superior technology, quality service, and excellent value to its customers.

Benchmark Electronics was named this year's top supplier for providing external manufacturing services to Sun. It was cited for consistently providing a level of service unparalleled across Sun's supply base. Last year, Benchmark Electronics also was named a Best-in-Class Supplier to Sun Microsystems.
